Nocton RAF Hospital was used by American and British forces since the early 1900's. Full closure of the site occurred in 1995. The adjoining hall was burnt down by arsonists in October 2004. 70 fire fighters attempted to control the blaze. However despite this the roof collapsed leaving only an empty shell. Also interestingly King Henry VIII is said to have visited Nocton in 1541 and planted a chestnut tree which still exists near the main hall building.
